
The Institute of Economic Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences was established by a resolution of the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences of December 10, 1980, approved by the Prime Minister on January 5, 1981. It obtained legal personality by a decision of the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences of October 7, 1999. The primary objective of the Institute of Economic Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences is to conduct advanced scientific research in the discipline of economics and finance. In addition to its research activities, the Institute conducts teaching, publishing, and popularization activities.
The Institute is authorized to award doctoral degrees and postdoctoral degrees in economics and finance, and to apply for the academic title of professor of social sciences in the discipline of economics and finance.
Institute's Mission
The mission of the Institute of Economic Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences is to analyze the mechanisms of socio-economic development, identify the conditions that determine the maintenance of high growth rates in the Polish economy, increase prosperity and improve the quality of life of its citizens, and diagnose economic problems for the purposes of shaping economic and social policy.
The Institute pursues its mission by conducting in-depth research that meets the requirements of scientific excellence in the theory of economics and economic policy, and recently also in the theory and practice of management. In recent years, the Institute's research programs have increasingly relied on the use of advanced quantitative methods and collaboration with foreign research centers, and their results are presented in renowned and highly ranked foreign publications, as well as in international and domestic conferences and scientific seminars.
The Institute's activities also include initiating discussion and disseminating knowledge about important and current issues and challenges in the field of economics and economic policy. A key dimension of its mission is the continuous improvement of human resources management, particularly by supporting employee development and creating an inspiring work environment. Our goal is to provide a working environment in which every employee feels free to choose their research subject and method, has the opportunity to utilize their intellectual potential, and demonstrate innovation in pursuing their scientific goals.
Strategic Goals
For several years now, the Institute of Economics of the Polish Academy of Sciences has been undergoing a profound transformation, which began in 2015. It is based on the consistent implementation of a comprehensive program of activities aimed at achieving two strategic goals: first, further strengthening the Institute's scientific position at the national and international levels by changing the employment structure, rejuvenating the scientific staff, and implementing a systemic approach to stimulating the scientific and research activities of its employees and providing organizational support for their efforts. Second, strengthening the Institute's position and recognition among the national community of academic economists, as well as among economic administration, experts, and business circles. This strengthening of the Institute's scientific position has been reflected in the rapidly increasing number of publications in respected international publications in recent years.
